Job Summary

The Associate Chief of Staff for Primary Care is a key leadership position within the Veterans Health Administration, responsible for providing administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Primary Care Service Line. This role requires a strong leader with expertise in primary care, business acumen, data management, and performance measures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct management and oversight of clinical and administrative operations within the primary care services.
  • Reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff.
  • Monitors, reviews, and assigns healthcare providers' workload, clinical effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Coordinates work schedules and is responsible for clinical performance measures.
  • Works closely with other leaders within the primary care service line and the organization to ensure optimization of resources and delivery of effective and efficient patient care.
  • Participates in administrative, management, quality assurance, and other activities, meetings, or committees as necessary or assigned.
  • Remains privileged and practicing in their specialty field, with a minimum of 10%-20% direct patient care.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience
  • Primary Care experience in a leadership role in the healthcare system.
  • Experience with a wide range of skills: business acumen, data management, performance measures, and clinical care.
  • Developing collaborative approaches to working and building sustainable commitments for primary care and how primary care relates to other services in the organization.
  • Experience with sustainment of Veterans Health Administration Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Policy and standards.
Additional Requirement

Board-certified physician with advanced clinical experience and demonstrated administrative and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. This position may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning.
