Position Overview:
The Patient Mobility Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting clinical personnel and the interprofessional healthcare team within an inpatient environment. This role is performed under the direct oversight of clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities:
This position encompasses a variety of delegated tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Facilitating patient mobility and adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Assisting patients with exercises and functional activities.
  • Transporting patients to and from treatment areas.
  • Inspecting and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Managing supplies and performing basic clerical duties.

The Patient Mobility Specialist is dedicated to delivering outstanding patient care according to departmental guidelines, ensuring optimal safety and service quality while embracing a Patient and Family-Centered Care approach.

Team Collaboration:
This role requires effective teamwork, responding positively to colleagues' requests for assistance and fostering a supportive work atmosphere with the interprofessional care team. The specialist will assist nursing staff and physicians by addressing patients' identified needs, particularly in post-surgical recovery and rehabilitation exercises, while prioritizing safety at all times.

Service Excellence:
Adhering to patient and family-centered care standards, the specialist will:

  • Assist with treatment plans that involve patient mobility and wound care.
  • Gather pertinent patient information prior to treatment sessions.
  • Organize materials and supplies in preparation for patient visits.
  • Respond to patient falls and contribute to service recovery efforts.

Quality and Safety Commitment:
Collaboration with the interprofessional team is essential to communicate patient responses to care activities. The specialist may also be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation of care procedures, ensuring patient privacy, and supporting initiatives aimed at preventing pressure injuries and hospital-acquired infections.

Financial Accountability:
Assisting in data collection for quality improvement projects and managing departmental inventory is part of the role. Efficient use of resources is expected, alongside effective time management to meet labor productivity standards.

Professional Development:
The Patient Mobility Specialist is encouraged to seek continuous learning opportunities and engage in performance improvement initiatives, contributing to the overall growth of the department.

Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with relevant experience in patient care settings. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
