**About the Role**

At Mercy Health, we are dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services to our patients. We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide indirect and direct patient care within the scope of your practice and in alignment with our standards of excellence and quality.
  • Under the direction of our providers, contribute to the completion of patient chief complaints, document patient/family needs, participate in planning and implementing care for patients, and administer ordered medications as needed.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses, collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Provide authorized prescription and drug refill information for pharmacies as directed by our providers.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, dispose of contaminated supplies, and maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist with virtual health visits, including setting up the visit through the appropriate platform, pre-charting the visit prior to the scheduled appointment, and troubleshooting issues when needed.

Requirements:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from one of the following: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA).
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
  • High School/GED (required).
  • Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program (required within 30 days employment) (If employed in South Carolina, enrollment in an accredited post-secondary education is required).
  • 1 year of healthcare or clerical physician practice experience (preferred).

Compensation: The estimated salary range for this position is $48,000-$58,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
