Key Responsibilities:

The Agricultural Operations Supervisor has the authority to organize labor and resources to achieve the objectives of both research and production. Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and evaluating work requests from faculty members.
  • Setting priorities for research and operational activities.
  • Providing clear guidance on tasks, including limitations, quality expectations, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Working independently on recurring assignments while seeking assistance for unfamiliar situations.
  • Ensuring that the methods and outcomes of work align with expectations.

Qualifications for Success:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a diversified agricultural production environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Agronomy, Animal Science, or a relevant field.
  • Five years of experience in large-scale agricultural operations.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead staff effectively.
  • Vocational training in the safe and proper use of pesticides.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to interpret detailed instructions and maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency in operating various types of farm equipment safely.
  • Ability to identify plant diseases, weeds, and signs of pest infestations.
  • Knowledge of pesticide safety and the ability to interpret labels and safety data sheets.
  • Understanding of safety protocols related to the maintenance and operation of agricultural machinery.
  • Familiarity with planting techniques and the ability to follow detailed planting plans.
  • Experience in calibrating and operating precision agricultural equipment.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and the ability to plan, assign, and evaluate the work of others.
  • Experience with geographic information systems for precision agriculture.
