Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist I to join our team at Highmark Health. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical suites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in setting up the surgical operating suite with the necessary instruments and supplies, adhering to strict aseptic techniques and protocols.
  • Utilize proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions, following policy for medication and specimen handling.
  • Assist with preparing, positioning, and draping patients, and participate in the surgical pause to ensure correct patient and surgical site identification.
  • Understand, anticipate, and adapt to surgeon preference and patient care variables, contributing to updating surgeon preference materials.
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument count, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Care for and utilize resources to promote a cost-effective and efficient environment for patients.
Qualifications
  • Minimum: One year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 must: Successfully complete a Surgical Technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and maintain a surgical technologist certification from an accredited certification program (including military completed programs). Nationally recognized surgical technologist certification required within 6 months of completion of Surgical Technologist program. - OR-
  • Be employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before December 29, OR-
  • Been employed to practice surgical technology as the individual's primary function in another health care facility at any time during the two years immediately preceding December 29, 2020
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
