Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is seeking a Senior Automation Systems Engineer at our Cleveland, OH facility. This role is pivotal in delivering Level 2 Supervisory Automation support aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, product quality, and overall productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead cross-functional teams on specialized projects and initiatives.

Oversee real-time monitoring of supervisory computer systems in steel mill operations, which includes maintaining hardware and software, designing and implementing new control systems, and upgrading existing systems.
Conduct research, analysis, design, and maintenance of manufacturing control systems to foster continuous improvement in production processes.

Prepare and present analytical findings, offering relevant conclusions and actionable recommendations.
Develop customized software solutions, programming code, and database configurations for tracking, communication modeling, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, as well as networking and video systems.

Implement and sustain additional software pertinent to mill operations, including product tracking, dimensioning, data reporting, and analysis.
Identify and evaluate production projects by employing advanced engineering methodologies to address complex challenges and provide strategic recommendations to management.

Maintain real-time oversight of computer controls in steel mill processes, ensuring the integrity of hardware and software systems, while also designing and modernizing control systems.
Engage with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialized interfaces.

Foster positive relationships with union personnel, contractors, leadership, and operational teams.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or computer-related discipline, such as Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.

A minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in software development, programming, and system maintenance within a technical team in an industrial setting.
Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages including C, C#, Fortran, VB.NET, Java/JavaScript, C++, Python, and Microsoft SQL, along with Windows scripting.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Tools and Applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms, and PowerBI.
Basic understanding of computer networking and routing principles.

Proven ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot intricate programming logic.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience working effectively in a self-directed team environment.
Note that operations are conducted 24/7, necessitating continuous support, including rotational weekend and on-call duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) or more years of experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science.
Experience in programming across various high-level languages, including C, .NET, FORTRAN, Java, or C++, is highly desirable.

Experience as a database administrator with DBMS and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is advantageous.
Familiarity with process modeling and interfacing with direct control systems such as PLC, DCS, and hybrid systems is a plus.

Knowledge of Windows and/or VMS server operating systems is beneficial.
Demonstrated understanding of control theory and disciplined project management skills are preferred.
