Role Summary
The Lead Senior Seminar Educator plays a crucial role in equipping students for the transitions they will encounter post-graduation. The curriculum encompasses essential topics such as personal finance, independent living skills, healthy lifestyle choices, and employability competencies. At Distinctive Schools, educators enhance their skills through iterative cycles of practice and constructive feedback. They cultivate classroom environments characterized by effective routines, rituals, and management strategies that optimize instructional time. Continuous communication regarding student progress with families is a priority.
Key Responsibilities
Culture Building:
- Uphold a student-centered approach in all decision-making processes.
- Foster the belief that every student has the capacity to learn and achieve remarkable outcomes.
- Engage in the campus and network's equity initiatives and apply culturally responsive decision-making.
- Develop and nurture a sense of belonging through positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Instructional Preparation and Assessment (90%):
- Implement the Distinctive Schools instructional model.
- Provide consistent opportunities for all students to engage with grade-appropriate assignments utilizing core curriculum and resources, ensuring frequent checks for understanding.
- Deliver impactful instruction that engages students cognitively and promotes deep learning.
- Utilize core instructional tools to design, prepare, and deliver dynamic lessons aligned with grade-level standards, facilitating rigorous learning experiences.
- Commit to personalized, student-centered learning that incorporates individual needs, strengths, and interests.
- Maintain an inventory of instructional materials.
- Keep accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development.
- Analyze and utilize assessments to monitor progress, adjusting strategies as necessary to support students in mastering grade-level standards.
- Conduct assessments regularly and analyze data through campus and network-wide systems.
- Engage in coaching and mentoring opportunities to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Participate in all required professional development and meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
Classroom Environment (10%):
- Maintain an organized and inviting classroom atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging, joy, and safety for students.
- Implement effective classroom procedures, routines, and rituals that maximize learning opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with students and families.
- Employ a restorative justice approach to discipline and behavior management in alignment with campus practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student growth and achievement.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Licensure:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License or proof of enrollment in a Teacher Certification program within 30 days of employment.
Technology Skills:
Ability to analyze student and campus data from various sources; proficiency with cloud-based software solutions (Google Suite); willingness to learn new digital tools as required.
Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine motor skills required. The role generally involves 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.
