The Fresh Produce Supervisor is accountable for the effective management and profitability of the produce section, which encompasses training, guiding, and overseeing all team members within the department.

Department Supervisors are tasked with the success of their respective areas and are expected to perform the duties of the Manager on Duty (MOD) as scheduled.


Responsibilities:

Main Responsibilities:
Delivering exceptional customer service as the top priority.

Demonstrating integrity, accountability, and excellence while adhering to all company policies.

Creating an appealing, well-stocked, and accessible department.

Managing orders for the produce section and ensuring accurate inventory levels.

Overseeing profit margins, cost of goods sold (COGS), and overall departmental profitability while minimizing waste and optimizing purchasing strategies.


Maintaining the department daily, ensuring that the produce display is consistently fresh, full, and appealing throughout the day.

Sorting, refreshing, rotating, and properly storing produce.

Ensuring that only certified organic produce is ordered and received.

Verifying that all in-stock items meet company standards.

Ensuring that all tools and equipment are sanitized according to health department and company guidelines.

Receiving all incoming produce deliveries in accordance with company standards.

Managing special orders and following up as necessary.

Training and supervising department staff.

Collaborating with other department supervisors to cross-train staff for various tasks.

Conducting both active and passive product demonstrations.

Merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.

Assisting in the recruitment and hiring processes for departmental needs.

Working alongside the store manager to address performance and/or disciplinary matters within the department.


Handling register operations, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer inquiries, and covering register shifts, including breaks.

Ensuring the safety and security of both customers and employees.

Occasionally managing disruptions to daily operations such as loitering, solicitation, emergency weather situations, and restroom misuse.

Responding to customer inquiries in accordance with company policies, including the use of Structure/Function statements and/or nutritional support statements.

Continuously enhancing product knowledge.

Utilizing email and information systems as necessary.

Opening and closing the store.

Completing daily sales reports and closing cash processes may be required in the absence of other qualified personnel.

Working a schedule based on store needs, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position requires working five days, totaling 40 hours per week, and attending mandatory store meetings.


While this is a general outline of job responsibilities, all employees are expected to be "hands-on" and do whatever it takes to ensure the success of the company.


Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is preferred.

Ability to obtain forklift certification.

1-2 years of experience in a grocery/retail/produce environment is preferred; a background in natural foods is advantageous.

1-2 years of experience supervising others is preferred.


Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications current and registered if applicable.

Ability to manage shifting priorities and maintain focus on tasks.

A sense of urgency in completing tasks.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to take direction and follow through.

Must be trained in cashiering and able to handle currency. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Physical Requirements:


Must have the ability to consistently lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs.

Must also have the ability to occasionally lift or carry heavier weights with assistance.

Must have the ability to frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs. and occasionally push or pull heavier weights.

Must be able to occasionally use a computer for data entry and mouse functions.


Must be able to constantly walk, stand, use fine motor skills, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift.

Must be able to frequently reach above shoulder height.

Must be able to occasionally sit, squat, kneel, and climb as needed.

Environmental Requirements:
Must be able to frequently work with sharp tools and equipment, dust, fumes, and congested work areas.
