As a HIM Inpatient Coding Specialist II, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our coding processes.

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking an experienced coder with excellent analytical skills to perform all coding and abstracting for Penn Medicine. Your responsibilities will include reviewing medical records, selecting principal diagnoses and procedures, and analyzing data to produce high-level reimbursement. You will also serve as a gatekeeper for the provider query process, communicating with providers to ensure accurate and timely queries.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Review medical records to accurately determine principal diagnoses and procedures (96% accuracy)

- Analyze data to produce optimal DRG or APR-DRG assignments (96% accuracy)

- Abstract and enter coded information into the Epic system for timely billing

- Maintain productivity standards, including coding 15-19 inpatient records daily

- Process retrospective queries and assign Coding Hold reasons to incomplete records

- Identify and apply Present on Admission indicators according to designated guidelines

- Prioritize high-dollar cases over four days old and strive to become fluent in inpatient coding across UPHS facilities

**Requirements:**

- Certified Coding Specialist-CCS (AHIMA) certification (required)

- RHIA or RHIT preferred

- High school diploma or equivalent (required)

- 1+ years of experience coding inpatient medical records (required)

- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field (preferred)
