Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Manager to join our team at BREC, LA. As a key member of our recreation department, you will be responsible for directing and managing recreation programs and services at one or more recreation centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the operation of the recreation center(s), including scheduling facility staff, maintaining supplies and equipment, and ensuring proper maintenance of property.
  • Hire, supervise, and train staff on BREC policies and procedures.
  • Supervise all programs conducted within recreation centers and on park property.
  • Communicate program concerns to the Program Coordinator and facility and park property concerns to the Regional Assistant Director.
  • Direct program ideas from the public to the Program Coordinator, including program objectives.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in promoting programs throughout the serviced community.
  • Supervise and assist with special events and group activities as directed by the Regional Assistant Director.
  • Maintain financial records and complete weekly and monthly reports of all activities relevant to assigned facilities.
  • Regularly communicate with groups, civic associations, community leaders, and businesses within the serviced community.
  • Coordinate requirements of program/facility with affected BREC departments.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with supervision and evaluation of program quality and content at each facility.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Area of study: Recreation Management, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field.
  • Professional membership with LRPA and NRPA and First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire.
  • CPRP or comparable certification through NRPA preferred.
  • Valid LA driver's license.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of recreation.
  • Knowledge of municipal recreation management principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of planning, scheduling, administering, and evaluating the effectiveness of recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of basic math/financial reports/budgeting.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of various software applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Office Suites, RecTrac, MainTrac, and AS400.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to others in a positive manner.
  • Creative programming skills with the ability to assist in developing programs for diverse populations.
  • Strong ability to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Public relations skills and public speaking ability.
  • Ability to multitask is essential.
