Preconstruction Engineer

JP Cullen, a leading construction management firm, is seeking a skilled Preconstruction Engineer to join our team in Madison and Janesville offices. As a key member of our estimating team, you will play a crucial role in providing accurate and efficient estimates to our clients.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual with a strong interest in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction processes, estimating techniques, and building information modeling (BIM) software. You will be responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, conducting site visits, and performing quantity takeoffs. Additionally, you will collaborate with estimators, project managers, and superintendents to develop construction plans and work independently on assigned divisions of work.

• Review and analyze plans and specifications to identify project requirements
• Conduct site visits to gather information and assess project conditions
• Perform quantity takeoffs and estimate costs for materials and labor
• Collaborate with estimators, project managers, and superintendents to develop construction plans
• Work independently on assigned divisions of work, including self-performed work in concrete, masonry, steel, carpentry, and equipment setting
• Price self-performed work and maintain historical cost databases
• Prepare bids and conceptual estimates for clients
• Analyze subcontractor bids to ensure a complete scope of work
• Negotiate and award subcontracts
• Participate in training programs and stay up-to-date with industry developments

• Four-year college degree in construction, engineering, or a related field, or completion of an apprenticeship and internship experience in a construction-related position
• At least two years of experience in estimating, preferably in the construction industry
