Job Summary
This position is responsible for conducting intake activities associated with the proper admission of consumers into Fairbanks Native Association's clinical behavioral health treatment programs. The Intake Clinician will review and assess treatment applications and referrals to determine appropriateness for program services, provide immediate response to applicants, and facilitate routine and emergency admission disposition meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews and assesses treatment applications and referrals to determine appropriateness for program services
- Provides immediate response to applicants and facilitates routine and emergency admission disposition meetings
- Presents treatment applications and referrals to the disposition treatment team, summarizing clinical information, consumer needs, level of care, and treatment recommendations
- Assigns priority for services and documents treatment team decisions accordingly
- Provides information to staff on the status of consumer inquiries, referrals, and acceptance
- Performs behavioral health assessments to assess and document the nature and severity of any presenting behavioral health disorders
- Conducts interviews by correspondence, telephone, or in person, obtaining confidential information from referral sources if necessary
- Meets with consumers at admissions, administers and analyzes co-occurring disorders screening tools, updates diagnostics, treatment/services recommendations, and other clinically relevant information in a written assessment addendum during admissions
- Makes appropriate referrals for consumers with co-occurring disorders who may be unable to receive treatment onsite
- Establishes and maintains regular contact with the waiting list of individuals accepted to residential treatment who cannot be admitted due to space constraints
- Provides interim services (counseling/education on HIV/TB, FASD/FDE, and referral for HIV/TB testing) within 48 hours to individuals on the waitlist who are injection drug users
- Obtains demographic data and history in a format to meet accreditation requirements
Requirements
- Familiarity with consumer intake processes, including interviews, assessments, DSM, ASAM Patient Placement Criteria, referrals
- Knowledge of substance use and behavioral health disorders
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices
- Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native Populations
- Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees
- Ability to work independently as well as with teams
Qualifications
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, child guidance, community mental health, marriage and family therapy, social work, or nursing
- Three (3) years relevant experience in human service field with direct care services performing intake related services
- Must be eligible to be certified as, be able to attain, a chemical dependency counselor within six (6) months of hire
