Position Summary

Provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients with a range of oncology needs, from straightforward to complex medical situations.

Education

A graduate of an accredited nursing program holding a current New Jersey nursing license is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred.

Experience

Prior experience in oncology nursing for at least one year is highly desirable. Medical-Surgical experience of one year is also beneficial. Newly graduated nurses may be considered based on the Nurse Manager's discretion.

Certification/Licensure
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is mandatory.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is preferred, and staff will receive support in pursuing this credential.
  • Bio-therapy/chemotherapy education (ONS certificate) is highly valued.
Essential Job Functions

Deliver patient care that adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Care, Patient Bill of Rights, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Ensure care aligns with specialty-specific standards set by organizations like the Oncology Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, as applicable.

Conduct thorough assessments, develop comprehensive patient care plans, implement those plans effectively, and continuously evaluate their outcomes based on evolving healthcare needs.

Provide clear and concise patient education, utilizing appropriate resources and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching strategies.

Demonstrate strong leadership skills through mentorship, effective communication, and role modeling. Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Delegate tasks and supervise the work of ancillary staff (Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Technicians, Unit Secretaries, etc.) while adhering to the New Jersey Scope of Practice guidelines.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment by serving as a role model, resource person, preceptor for nursing staff, and active participant in the orientation of new unit employees.

Engage in unit-based and organizational activities, committees, and community initiatives as appropriate.

Continuously identify personal learning needs related to nursing practice and actively seek educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Utilize evidence-based practice literature, policy manuals, procedure guidelines, and other reliable resources to ensure consistent and accurate delivery of care.

Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives to evaluate the quality of nursing care provided to patients.

Participate in compensated educational seminars focused on oncology advancements.

Embrace professional development opportunities through programs like the Professional Excellence Program and clinical ladder initiatives.
