POSITION SUMMARY

At Mayco Industries, we strive for excellence in automation, machine design, material handling, and custom manufacturing. The **CNC Machinist** will play a crucial role in preparing raw materials to meet the demands of the Machine Shop while operating a variety of machine tools. This includes, but is not limited to, band saws, manual lathes, manual mills, grinders, and CNC machines, alongside performing preventative maintenance on all equipment used in production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Job Functions:

  • Set up, modify programming, and operate lathes, mills, and both manual and CNC machines.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks within the machine shop.
  • Produce components based on specifications and product knowledge.
  • Maintain effective communication throughout all phases of production.
  • Ensure CNC machines are well-maintained and keep a tidy, organized workspace daily.
  • Document processes and adhere to established procedures and specifications.
  • Engage in research and development as well as product design initiatives as required.
  • Exhibit leadership and actively participate in all machine shop activities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting situations and applying appropriate skills and tools.
  • Provide training to colleagues on job-related functions as necessary.
  • Comply with safety and operational procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role may involve the following physical activities while operating machinery:

  • Regularly standing and walking.
  • Occasionally sitting.
  • Hand/eye coordination is essential.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling.
  • Frequent use of microscopes.
  • Consistent visual acuity for equipment operation, reading technical documents, and keyboard use.
  • Occasional lifting or moving heavy items.
  • Exposure to wet or humid conditions and working near moving mechanical parts.

SKILLS REQUIRED

· Proficient in reading, interpreting, and adhering to safety policies and procedures.

· Capable of calculating dimensions and tolerances using micrometers and calipers.

· Familiarity with mathematical concepts, including geometry and trigonometry.

· Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical scenarios.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Competent in using computers for data entry; proficiency in Microsoft Office is advantageous.

· Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

· Willingness to work independently and collaboratively.

· Skilled in reading and interpreting 2-D part drawings.

· Mechanical aptitude for addressing basic machining challenges.

· Knowledge of fundamental machine shop practices and measurement techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS

· EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years in a machine shop or tooling environment (Verification of recent employment may be required.)

· EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED is mandatory. Completion of a 60-hour CNC Programming Course or an AA/AS degree in Machine Shop training is preferred but not essential.

(Educational verification may be required.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position necessitates the ability to work under pressure in a professional manner within a CNC Shop in a manufacturing setting, which may involve exposure to dust, dirt, and noise. A proactive attitude is essential to drive projects to completion and achieve results effectively.
