Job Summary

Rochester Precision Optics LLC is seeking a skilled Optical Engineering Technician to join our team. As a key member of our manufacturing department, you will be responsible for providing value-added engineering support to our production processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to identify and resolve defects in the manufacturing process.
  • Provide guidance to manufacturing personnel on the daily operation of equipment and workflows.
  • Communicate with manufacturing engineers and production management on product performance issues and monitor productivity.
  • Apply engineering processes to support department objectives and contribute to the development of work instructions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
  • Utilize Lean and Six Sigma tools to improve efficiency and demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO, Bills of Material, and opto-mechanical principles.
  • Experience with Optical Assembly is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, with the ability to grasp complex procedures and contribute as an individual and as a team member.
  • Good manual dexterity and visual acuity.
  • Moderate to high computer skills, including proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methods is a plus.

  • Minimum of an A.S. degree in optics, mechanical engineering/technology with 2-4 years of relevant industry or manufacturing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Optics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is a plus.
Additional Requirements
  • Pursuant to ITAR, EAR, and other export compliance laws and regulations, applicants for this position must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.
Work Requirements
  • Physical demands of the job include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May involve prolonged periods of sitting/standing and use of oils and solvents.
Work Environment
  • May involve working in a manufacturing environment with loud noise levels and exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
