Occupational Safety Specialist

As a key leader within the Operations team at Metropolitan Market, the Occupational Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in creating a culture of safety excellence throughout the organization. This position is responsible for driving workplace safety results companywide, ensuring strict adherence to federal and state regulations, industry standards, and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership: Provides oversight to ensure safety regulatory compliance across the organization, demonstrating a thorough understanding of OSHA and WISHA requirements.
- Safety Program Development: Develops and maintains comprehensive safety protocols and standards that comply with federal and state regulations, continuously evaluating and improving safety programs to reduce injury reports and claims.
- Store Audits: Conducts regular store audits to identify and address hazardous conditions, regulatory infractions, and team member concerns, providing feedback and training for team members, department leaders, and Store Director teams.
- Collaboration and Communication: Works in partnership with the Operations Specialist to ensure all safety-related building and facility repairs are addressed in a timely manner, fostering a culture of workplace safety excellence and continuous improvement.
- Accident Investigation: Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries to determine the root cause, reviewing injury reports and investigations for accuracy, completeness, and to identify trends, developing comprehensive corrective and preventative action plans to address issues and prevent future accidents.
- Training and Development: Provides program development and ongoing maintenance for safety trainings, Safety Committee meetings, safety bulletin boards, and safety information for New Team Member Orientation, creating and distributing team member safety communications, such as tips/newsletters, handouts, and fliers.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports clearly communicating company and store results, trends, and opportunities, developing comprehensive action plans to address issues, closely monitoring metrics, measuring results, and ensuring success.
- Experience: Two to three years of experience working in operational safety, with successful experience managing workplace safety compliance in a multi-site environment.
- Certifications: Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred.
- Skills: Proven experience developing, delivering, and evaluating workplace safety training programs, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from company leadership, guests, and the general public, strong time management and organizational skills, and ability to work collaboratively while building trust-based relationships with team members.
- Competitive Pay: Competitive salary range: $92,000 - $107,400.
