Salary
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary ranging from $160,000 to $180,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to oversee the electrical estimating department, managing personnel and ensuring effective estimating practices. The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure project requirements are met efficiently.
The Estimating Manager will be responsible for coordinating pre-bid activities, bid management, cost databases, estimating software, implementing/improving estimating practices, and promoting professional development within the team. They will also be required to manage the firm's estimating activities, including pre-bid attendance, bid management, cost databases, estimating software, and developing best estimating practices.

- Perform functions inherent to a manager/supervisory position through directing, planning, organizing, and coordinating.
- Conduct/attend project meetings/huddles as needed to communicate project requirements.
- Establish timelines and estimating goals for effective and timely submittals.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration on estimates between all disciplines and parties.
- Work closely with the Preconstruction Manager to achieve the department objectives.
- Develop department protocol for best estimating practices.
- Review/Approve bids, specifications, drawings, and the contract to proactively solve potential issues.
- Inform preconstruction staff of project requirements and owner directives, and develop a plan to meet stated goals.
- Assist with the identification and negotiation of time extensions as needed with the client.
- Responsible for the management and continued development of the estimating department.
- Act as Hiring Manager for the department by evaluating the department needs, produce requisitions for new staffing resources, and conduct interviews with candidates in conjunction with HR to evaluate the appropriate candidate.
- Perform weekly timesheet reviews of all estimating staff.
- Review and approve data submitted by staff, including proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure quality of services provided by the estimating staff meets project requirements.
- Coordinate and approve employee's request for time off, assuring that the department is always properly staffed.
- Review and approve expense reports that include travel, credit cards, and other estimating-related expenses.
- Evaluate employee's annual performance and work with the Preconstruction Manager to establish career development and growth plans for the employee.
- Provide monthly reports of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which include types of estimates and values of estimates being produced.
- Coordination with Construction Operations and other company executives to help effectuate the firm's strategic planning effort.
- Prepare to properly turn over documents to the Construction Ops department in a timely manner.
- Review drawings with Project Management team and highlight areas of concern.
- Review job cost with Project Management team and highlight any subs/material vendors that still need to be awarded.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have proven high-level construction estimating experience, leadership, and mentoring skills. They should also possess solid presentation skills and verbal/written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
A B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent progressive work experience with 7+ years of estimating on construction projects or 10+ years of experience in lieu of education is required. The candidate should be able to make decisions under tight deadlines and have proven hands-on experience in estimating. They should also be able to independently produce conceptual estimates and demonstrate an expertise relative to constructability as applied to construction methods and materials, and the economics involved.
