Position Overview:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Nurse Residency Program is tasked with attending essential quality and core curriculum classes, engaging in professional development workshops, and participating in peer support groups. This role is crucial for successfully completing all clinical competencies and validation requirements of the Nurse Residency Program.

Under the guidance of the Clinical Education Team, the LPN will enhance their nursing knowledge and skills while actively managing clinical situations assigned to them under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.

All personnel are expected to be well-versed in and adhere to Prisma Health's Compassion Standards, Mission, Vision, and Values, which emphasize compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Collection:
Collect and document patient data accurately, ensuring all forms are completed according to unit standards. Identify patient needs and communicate effectively with the supervising RN, while reviewing and recording the latest diagnostic results and providing patient care under supervision.

2. Care Planning:
Contribute to the interdisciplinary care team by providing insights on care plans based on the nursing process, incorporating multidisciplinary plans and continuing care needs, while making referrals to support services under RN supervision.

3. Care Implementation:
Deliver care that meets accepted practice standards, providing treatments and procedures as prescribed. Demonstrate an understanding of the age-related needs of patients, explain nursing procedures, and advocate for patient care while escalating emergency situations to the RN.

4. Evaluation:
Document care delivered as planned, noting any variations with appropriate justifications. Make observations related to potential problems and implement nursing measures as directed by the supervising RN.

5. Leadership and Management:
Integrate cost-effective practices into nursing duties, recognize unit challenges, and escalate issues to the RN. Participate actively in quality improvement processes and comply with hospital policies to ensure safe working conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an LPN program recognized by the SC State Board of Nursing.
- Candidates with over 12 months of LPN experience are not eligible for this program.

Licensure:
- Must be licensed to practice as an LPN in South Carolina.
