We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Geisinger Medical Center. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms.
Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons with procedures related to patient care during surgical interventions.
- Coordinate treatments with other disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.
- Provide basic patient assistance and connect patients to clinical equipment as needed.
- Practice aseptic techniques to prepare for surgery, including scrubbing, applying surgical gowns, gloving, draping, and setting up instrument tables.
- Participate in surgical Time out and operating room briefing according to universal protocol.
- Identify correct surgical sites with the circulating registered nurse and surgeon before incision of operative procedures.
- Maintain accurate accounts of supplies, including sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Verify counts with the circulating nurse at the end of procedures.
- Prepare, identify, and verify all specimens obtained during surgical procedures.
- Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers.
- Assess wounds and apply or change sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse.
- Maintain and document universal precautions.
- Initiate emergency procedures as needed.
- Participate in admission and discharge processes.
- Perform billing for services rendered or equipment used.
- Participate in on-call rotations of operating rooms.
- Act as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit.
- Adhere to all policies, protocols, and standards of care.
- Perform quality control monitoring.
- Perform additional duties, including specimen collection, pleure-vac, and traction setup, patient transport, and post-mortem care.
- Ensure all medications and solutions are labeled, under the registered nurse's supervision.
- Graduate from a Specialty Training Program.
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (preferred).
- Skills in communication, computer literacy, medical devices and tools, and teamwork.
