Job Description:

Position Overview:

The Quality Assurance and Control Inspector for substations is responsible for ensuring that all construction and maintenance tasks adhere to the established quality benchmarks and comply with industry regulations and company protocols.

This role requires thorough inspections, precise documentation, and detailed reporting to uphold the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency in substation initiatives.


What You'll Do:

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection and Testing:
Conduct comprehensive inspections of substation elements, including foundations, steel frameworks, electrical apparatus, control wiring, and grounding systems.

Execute quality control testing and inspections in line with contractual obligations and company best practices.

Examine both above and below-ground conduit installations for compliance with project plans and specifications.

Documentation and Reporting:
Review engineering drawings and submissions for alignment with project specifications, utilizing direct assessments and the expertise of the project team as needed.

Maintain meticulous and detailed records of inspection outcomes and testing results.

Compile thorough reports summarizing inspection activities, identified discrepancies, and recommended corrective measures.

Ensure all documentation meets regulatory and company standards.

Compliance and Standards:

Confirm that all construction and maintenance operations adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC) and local, state, and federal regulations.

Ensure compliance with company quality control protocols and safety measures.


Verify and document that all materials procured for the project conform to approved submissions, are properly handled and stored, and are suitable for project use.


Coordination and Communication:
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.

Effectively communicate inspection results and quality concerns to project stakeholders in a timely manner.


Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up meetings to establish a clear understanding of the quality standards required for each definable work feature.

Provide guidance and support to construction teams regarding quality assurance and control best practices.

Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance quality control processes and procedures.

Stay informed about the latest industry standards, technological advancements, and best practices in substation construction and maintenance.

Safety and Environmental Compliance:
Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with environmental regulations and safety standards.

Participate in safety audits and offer recommendations to improve site safety.

What You'll Bring:

Qualifications:

Education:
Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, ISO9001, or a related field preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in QA/QC roles within the electrical utility sector, ideally with a focus on substation and renewable energy projects.


Certifications:
Relevant certifications such as Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), OSHA, & CPR/First Aid.

Knowledge:
Strong grasp of electrical and civil engineering principles, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.

Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in utilizing inspection tools and software, and familiar with quality management systems.

Drug Screen:
Must successfully complete mandatory drug and alcohol screenings.

Platforms:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and relevant safety software. Experience with Procore is preferred.

Work Environment:
Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including inclement weather.

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Willingness to travel to different substation sites as required.

Capacity to work in high-voltage environments with strict adherence to safety protocols.
