Position: 12 Months, 8 Hours
Status: Non-Exempt
Shift: 2nd shift (Evenings) during academic year (Daytime hours during summer)
Starting Salary: $20.38 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance on school buses and other vehicles following a scheduled plan.
- Perform necessary repairs on school buses and other vehicles as required.
- Examine buses before the academic year begins and apply the State of Missouri inspection sticker as mandated.
- Assist in preparing the school bus fleet for the annual State Highway Patrol inspection.
- Install specialized adaptive equipment in buses as needed.
- Transport spare buses to breakdown locations and strive to return disabled buses to the maintenance shop.
A high school diploma or GED is mandatory. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a vehicle mechanic is required, with comprehensive knowledge of both diesel and gasoline-powered machinery. Previous experience in school bus maintenance is preferred. Candidates must possess or be able to obtain their own hand tools. A valid State of Missouri Inspector-Mechanic license is necessary. A Commercial Driver's License without air brake restriction is also required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach while servicing vehicles. Capability to operate various types of vehicles and to climb into, on, or beneath vehicles for maintenance and repairs. Ability to lift parts and components as necessary. Capacity to navigate throughout the transportation facility.
Mental Requirements:
Ability to operate effectively in a multi-tasking, deadline-driven environment. Flexibility to adjust to changing operational conditions. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills. Ability to perform well under pressure. Proficient in clear verbal and written communication. Ability to read, learn, and respond to a variety of job-related topics.
Work Environment:
Operates within a vehicle maintenance facility that is heated but lacks air conditioning. Summer temperatures can be significantly high. Occasionally works outdoors in varying temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be elevated.
