Baton Rouge, located along the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, is the state capital and home to over 800,000 residents, making it the second-largest city in the state. Renowned for its rich cultural blend, warm hospitality, diverse culinary scene, and vibrant college football atmosphere, it also serves as a key industrial and petrochemical hub.

Since our operations commenced in 1909, the Baton Rouge complex has evolved into an integrated facility comprising the Baton Rouge Refinery, the third-largest refinery in the U.S., along with several chemical plants and terminals. Our product range includes everything from conventional gasoline and diesel to advanced chemical compounds utilized in everyday products like diapers, shampoos, and cosmetics.

As the second-largest employer in Louisiana, we face daily challenges in safely managing eight interconnected sites around the clock. Role Overview

We are looking for experienced Chemical Process Engineers to take on the role of Utilities and Offsites Technology lead at our Baton Rouge Oil Refinery.

As a Senior Chemical Process Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient operation of our facilities. You will be tasked with initiating and leading enhancements to unit performance, focusing on safety, production, and reliability within a collaborative team environment. Your strategic thinking, thoughtful execution, and ability to work across various teams and levels will be essential. In this capacity, you will act as a senior technical resource, offering expertise to tackle complex processes across business units.

Complex Engineers are primarily responsible for establishing long-term visions for unit performance and troubleshooting while also supporting daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical authority on the business team by:
    • Mentoring junior engineers on design methodologies, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting
    • Providing off-hours support for abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds
    • Assisting in the formulation of long-term strategies for product line enhancements
    • Organizing and designing plant testing and product trials
    • Acting as a senior resource, collaborating with supervisors to set clear objectives and align priorities for the technical team
    • Influencing stakeholders and driving solutions without direct authority
  • Collaborate within a team environment alongside other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel while interfacing with corporate technology support
    • Ability to engage with third-party vendors for cost optimization and solution development
  • Act as a process safety resource on the business team, leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments by formulating closure plans for identified risks
    • Leading and supporting incident investigations as the technical lead
  • Support the development and implementation of various capital projects aimed at enhancing margins or mitigating SHE risks
  • Assist in the field during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets
  • Exhibit the courage to foster healthy discussions between the business team and corporate technology support to ensure optimal outcomes
Qualifications

Required Skills
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in fuels/chemicals manufacturing, particularly with Utilities and Offsites exposure
    • Strong familiarity with tanks, pump skids, temporary facilities, boiler/steam generators, GTGs, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in process design
  • Knowledge of advanced control strategies and optimization software
  • Understanding of RBI practices, including corrosion damage mechanisms and mitigations
  • Experience with risk assessment and HAZOP processes
  • Familiarity with safety relief limits, including modeling and evaluations
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as PROII and ASPEN
  • Experience with Kinetic Modeling tools like SOL and KBC Profimatics
