Job Title: Donation Station Attendant

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Collection Manager

Description

As a key member of the Texas Thrift team, you will play a vital role in representing our charity to donors and ensuring a positive experience for all. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional customer service, maintain a clean and organized donation site, and safeguard donations until they can be picked up by our truck drivers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain a clean and well-organized donation site, including arranging donations in a neat and tidy manner.
  • Be present at the donation site during all scheduled hours and report in to your supervisor upon beginning and ending your shift.
  • Sign into our mobile device at the start and end of each shift and record all breaks.
  • Respond to hourly check-ins on our mobile device as required.
  • Take a 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks throughout the day.
  • Wear a name tag and a clean vest or shirt, and dress neatly and modestly.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes for safety.
  • Set up a chair, table, and umbrella outside the trailer in a visible location.
  • Place flags, banners, balloons, or signage in an attractive and visible manner.
  • Keep the outside area free of trash, glass, and other debris by sweeping each morning and evening.
  • Confirm that the trailer has the necessary supplies and call your supervisor if any are needed.
  • Be knowledgeable about our charity and its purpose, who we serve, and that we purchase donations for market value.
  • Stand up to greet and thank each donor, offer to carry donations to the trailer, and give the donor a receipt for their donation.
  • Treat all donations and donors with respect and do not drop or throw donations.
  • Stack donations carefully and neatly in the trailer, with bags tied and boxes closed.
  • Record each donation in the donor log at the trailer.
  • All donations are the property of Texas Thrift, and any theft or waste will result in immediate termination.
  • Do not sort through merchandise; keep it in its original containers and closed.
  • Confirm that the door of the shed is fully operational and closed and securely locked when not at the trailer.
  • Do not smoke in the trailer or near the trailer.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to stand for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to bend frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds with regularity.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish relationships with peers, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work within Texas Thrift's culture.

Education, Experience, Training Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or a combination of education and experience that yields the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High level of diplomacy and interpersonal skills.
