Job Title: Thermal Protection Technician

Estimated Salary: $65,000 per year

Brown & Root is seeking a skilled Thermal Protection Technician to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for protecting equipment, pipes, ductwork, and other mechanical systems from temperature extremes.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 6 months' experience in the field and will be able to read and interpret instructions and documentation. You will work under immediate supervision and will not typically require exercising independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
  • Determines the amounts and selects required thermal protection material based on material's ability to withstand temperature extremes, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
  • Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
  • Applies thermal protection materials to equipment, pipes, ductwork, and other mechanical systems.
  • Installs sheet metal around thermal protection materials with screws in order to protect them from weather conditions or physical damage.
  • Measures and cuts thermal protection materials for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
  • Prepares surfaces for thermal protection application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
  • Applies thermal protection materials to structures, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
  • Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
  • May remove or seal off old thermal protection materials, following safety procedures.
  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.

  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
