SUMMARY:
The Educator, under the guidance of the Center Director, will oversee a designated group of children. This role encompasses the planning and execution of educational programs, ensuring the well-being and safety of the children, maintaining communication with parents, and supervising support staff. The educator will embody the YMCA's mission, adhere to accreditation standards, and promote the core values of character development: honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility, to create a high-quality program that allows every child to thrive.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate closely with the Director to ensure curriculum approval and adherence to guidelines.
- Implement curriculum plans and daily activities tailored for children.
- Model and enforce health and safety protocols for staff and participants.
- Supervise and mentor teaching assistants.
- Develop age-appropriate educational materials aligned with New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
- Complete a minimum of 12 hours of professional development training annually as required by relevant governing bodies.
- Recognize signs of child abuse and understand reporting obligations.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of child development when interacting with children and communicating with parents.
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices through verbal communication and role modeling.
- Assist in swim lessons and maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios during aquatic activities.
- Guide and support teaching assistants in understanding and fulfilling the YMCA mission and core values.
- Prepare educational materials necessary for daily activities.
- Promote healthy eating standards by participating in activities and meals, while avoiding non-compliant food and beverage consumption during program hours.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and nurturing environment conducive to children's growth and development.
- Observe, document, and assess significant behaviors of children.
- Oversee indoor and outdoor activities, including nap times.
- Participate in staff and parent meetings, contributing to discussions.
- Conduct biannual meetings with parents to discuss their child's progress and address any concerns.
- Monitor supplies and equipment, requesting necessary items from the Director.
- Administer first aid as needed and supervise children's hygiene practices.
- Manage medication administration following parental consent.
- Complete all required daily documentation to comply with state regulations.
- Oversee bathroom procedures, including diapering and handwashing.
- Facilitate classroom staff meetings to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Exhibit a professional enthusiasm for the teaching role.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Attend mandated workshops and additional professional development days as required.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
- Accurately log hours worked using the designated time management system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associate's degree or equivalent group teaching certification from DCF, OOL, or the NJ Register.
· Minimum of one year of teaching experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to engage in typical activities such as walking, standing, sitting, running, lifting, and responding promptly to children's needs.
