Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Counsel Level C to join our Claims and Litigation Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and handling complex medical malpractice claims filed against NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest municipal healthcare system in the country.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work under the supervision of the managing attorney to handle complex medical malpractice claims from inception through final resolution, including trials.
  • Develop and implement defense strategies, recommend and work with medical experts, assess potential exposure of claims, and prepare treating physicians and other medical care providers for depositions and/or trial.
  • Prepare and draft substantive motions, and present cases to facilities and senior executives of the Hospital System.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management on issues that have the potential for litigation.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and LLB or JD from an accredited School of Law, and admission to New York State Bar.
  • Three (3) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, labor law, and employee relations.
  • Or two (2) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, employment law, and employee relations, with two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a professional or managerial capacity in respective fields applicable to the general body of law, specialties, or practice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of medical malpractice defense experience.
