Department: Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs: Youth Services

Compensation: Salary will be determined based on qualifications.

Position Overview:

This role involves temporary, entry-level responsibilities focused on teaching, guiding, and leading recreational activities, events, and programs within the City's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) facilities. Employees in this position report to a designated supervisor and work under close supervision, with a strong emphasis on recreational instruction and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in organizing and executing recreational activities, primarily for after-school programs, summer camps, and other community events.
  • Supervise participants of various ages while ensuring the cleanliness and safety of activity areas.
  • Maintain records related to registration, participation, inventory, and expenses for recreation programs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks at assigned recreation facilities; support the completion and processing of work orders and reports; assist in ensuring safety and risk management for recreation facilities and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least sixteen years of age or have graduated from high school or possess an equivalent diploma.
  • At least six months of experience in volunteering, teaching, or leading children in a structured recreational or childcare environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to pass a background check as required.
  • Must have transportation to various program sites and be available to work primarily from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for additional hours as needed.

Required Certifications:

  • A valid Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid from the American Red Cross (or equivalent) is required.

Additional Information:

  • Work may involve outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and related software may be necessary.
  • May require assessments and the establishment of an eligibility list.
  • Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Compensation:

  • The hourly rate for this position is $15.00.
