SUMMARY:

The City of Riverton is seeking a dedicated individual to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the operation of machinery and tools utilized in the collection and disposal of solid waste.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities include:

  1. Effectively operating sanitation vehicles, large front-end loaders, backhoes, and other machinery involved in waste collection and disposal.
  2. Responding to emergency situations as needed.
  3. Conducting routine checks and maintenance on assigned equipment; performing emergency repairs and reporting mechanical issues for further attention.
  4. Training less experienced staff in the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Assisting other departments as required.
  6. Performing tasks typical of a laborer position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May oversee personnel as assigned.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general guidance of a working foreman.


Qualification Requirements:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED; and three years of experience in a role equivalent to Sanitation Operator I; or a combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.
  4. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  5. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems.

OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Candidates should possess:

  1. Working knowledge of equipment operation principles and practices.
  2. Skill in operating assigned machinery.
  3. Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  4. Knowledge of standard safety practices related to equipment operation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

A valid Wyoming Commercial Driver's License is required; candidates must also be insurable under the City's insurance policy and be at least 18 years of age.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role requires:

  1. Regularly standing, walking, and using hands to handle tools and controls.
  2. Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  3. Occasional sitting and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees may encounter:

  1. Outdoor weather conditions.
  2. Moving mechanical parts.
  3. Occasional exposure to high places and hazardous materials.
  4. Generally loud noise levels.
