Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist II is an experienced phlebotomist responsible for accurately and compassionately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a professional medical environment.

This role functions as part of a dynamic team in a professional setting with a workload that ranges from fast-paced hospital settings and high/low volume clinics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing
  • Work in a professional, medical environment
  • Function as part of a dynamic team
  • Perform moderately complex laboratory testing
  • Act as a Team Lead or Trainer
  • Assist with adverse event investigations, research study coordination, and moderate complexity testing
  • Communicate procedures and instructions with patients, family members, and other caregivers
  • Deescalate stressful situations calmly and respectfully

Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers
  • Advanced skills and performance typically acquired with experience performing phlebotomy in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Experience working in a team environment under stressful situations
  • Self-motivated and experience working independently
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights
  • Ability to take on call shifts, according to department needs
  • Must be flexible to work at other facilities, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years' prior phlebotomy experience or one year Intermountain phlebotomy experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent as needed for CLIA compliance
  • Previous leadership experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands
  • See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents
  • Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart
  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work
  • Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work
