Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the principal and through them to the Director of Student Services or their designated representative, which may include the Education Team Leader or Program Teacher.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist special education instructors and related personnel in fostering essential skills for job readiness.
- Support special education students, both individually and in groups, in developing pre-employment competencies and enhancing their independence.
- Collaborate with local businesses and organizations to sustain community-based vocational opportunities for students.
- Accompany students into the community to provide training in vocational, social, and community skills.
- Evaluate student performance across various work environments.
- Maintain a daily record of student progress.
- Provide assistance with daily living activities as needed (including toileting, dressing, and transferring).
- Transport students to job sites using a school vehicle as required.
- Contribute to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student.
- Ensure adherence to labor regulations and prioritize student safety.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Educational Team Leader, special education staff, and the policies of the school committee.
- Associate's Degree or 48 college credits.
- Experience working with children and/or young adults with disabilities.
- Possession of a 7D License for transporting students in a school vehicle (can be obtained within a reasonable timeframe after hiring).
- Capability to lift 50 pounds and safely assist students over 100 pounds with daily living activities.
- Bilingual candidates preferred (Spanish and/or Portuguese).
- Must demonstrate teamwork and collaborative behaviors as a respectful member of the team.
- Good physical agility, requiring frequent bending, sitting, standing, kneeling, lifting, and occasional running.
- Able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to engage with a diverse range of student learners.
- Any other qualifications deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Superintendent of Schools.
