Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Music Ministry Director to join our team at St. Joseph Cathedral. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our music ministry, developing a prayerful and singing assembly, and supporting the gospel message through song.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute all music associated with worship, religious education, social ministry, and evangelization in the parish.
  • Coordinate and staff all liturgies with competent musicians, utilizing other musicians as necessary.
  • Provide music or plan with other musicians for weddings and funerals.
  • Collaborate with the Business Manager on preparation and implementation of the Music & Liturgy budgets.
  • Execute management and effective utilization of sound system in the church.
  • Serve as a resource on musical and liturgical matters in the parish, as well as provide catechesis to the parish at large on matters of corporate worship and musical celebration.
  • Attend parish staff meetings and participate in the development of the parish's music ministry.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in music or a related field required and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • Proficient in piano/organ, in conducting, and in singing.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Publisher, and music writing/editing software such as Finale or Sibelius.
  • Exemplary communication skills, with the ability to work well with adults and children alike.
  • Ability to improvise on keyboard instruments as well as reading music.
  • Catholic music and traditional hymns.
  • Working knowledge of basic sound system functions.
Physical Demands

The Music Ministry Director will be required to be present in the parish office and choir loft/section, and will need to be mobile to attend practice, meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee will be regularly required to be walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
