Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews and register patients in person or via telephone.
- Accurately enter and verify medical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business information to maintain the integrity of the master patient index and facilitate accurate claims.
- Prepare standard patient materials, including forms, labels, brochures, and surveys.
- Safeguard confidential health records, process physician orders, and manage patient scheduling.
- Identify the need for interpreter services and communicate effectively with patients.
- Educate patients about third-party coverage and financial responsibilities.
- Discuss potential payment options and connect patients with financial counselors as necessary. Collect and process co-pays, deductibles, and other payments.
- Maintain knowledge of legal and compliance requirements within the Patient Access Services (PAS) framework.
- Address a variety of patient inquiries regarding services and logistics to optimize access to care.
- Assist patients in utilizing the My UH Care Personal Health Record.
- Ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
- Stay informed about computer systems, insurance regulations, and UH/PAS policies and procedures.
- Collaborate as a team member with other staff and providers to enhance patient experience and departmental efficiency.
- Participate in emergency preparedness initiatives.
- Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
- Be cross-trained for additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Adhere to protocols for the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI).
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree or progress towards a degree (Preferred)
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology (Preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year in a call center, patient registration, scheduling, office, banking, customer service, or related medical field with computer usage (Required)
- Proficient in using PCs, MS Office, and general office equipment (Required)
- Strong keyboarding and data entry skills (Required)
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities (Required)
- Excellent client service, communication, and relationship-building skills (Required)
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment (Required)
