About the Role

As a Tech Lead Manager, Human Data Solutions Architect at OpenAI, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, build, and deploy cutting-edge data collection and management platforms. Your team will work closely with product managers, researchers, and other engineers to create new data and tooling around emerging research capabilities and unsolved customer needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly manage ICs / TLs on Human Data, a core part of the Research organization.
  • Build and grow high-performing teams in a deeply iterative, collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Be responsible for the team that will architect, build, and design our tooling, infra, products, and evals that power our data collection and management platform.
  • Iterate rapidly to improve user and developer experience both for our internal team as well as partner research teams while advancing scalability, performance, observability, and security.
  • Understand training and eval data needs from across all of OpenAI and research opportunities to improve our platform, and help develop our technical roadmap and prioritization.
  • Help drive the high-leverage projects for our team and ensure our team engagement is high and team, technical, and organizational blockers are resolved and milestones are delivered.
  • Ensure that our overall data collection platform is secure, scalable, highly available, and maximally useful.

Requirements
  • Hold a Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. or other degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, or a related field.
  • Have experience being a hands-on individual contributor, while simultaneously managing a high-performing team.
  • Be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to write code and be a major contributor to a project.
  • Have experience hiring, coaching, and inspiring senior engineers or other TLs.
  • Be willing to both own important problems end-to-end, but also have good delegation skills and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done.
  • Be strongly motivated by OpenAI's mission of building safe, universally beneficial AGI and are aligned with OpenAI's charter.
  • Stay goal-oriented instead of method-oriented, and are not afraid of tedious but high-value work when needed.
  • Be a team player who enjoys collaborative work environments.
