Job Summary

The City of Topeka is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Distribution Lead to join our team. As a key member of our Water Distribution division, you will be responsible for assisting with supervisory work in planning, coordinating, and directing the construction, repair, and maintenance of our water distribution system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the supervisor in providing feedback for staff evaluations and maintaining accountability for work performance and behavior.
  • Direct and coordinate all tasks necessary for the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and metering of our water distribution system, as well as treatment facilities' equipment and components.
  • Assist with work orders, scheduling, assigning, and coordinating work.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka's insurance carrier and possess a valid Class A Kansas Commercial driver's license.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in the construction, maintenance, inspection, and repair of water distribution systems, pumping, and tower operations, and/or meters.
  • Basic levels of the Microsoft Office Suite and GIS mapping and records.
  • Possess the following certifications: Forklift, Trench Competent Person, Confined Space Entry, First Aid/CPS/AED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Right-of-Way License (Railroad right-of-ways).
  • Distribution System Operation and Maintenance and/or Water Treatment Operator II - California State University, Sacramento correspondence course or equivalent.
  • Utility Management - California State University, Sacramento correspondence course or equivalent.
  • ACI 1 certified or able to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Nuclear gauge safety certified.
  • Traffic Control Certification.
