Job Summary

The Safety Specialist II is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for employees at BAE Systems USA. This position involves working closely with employees, supervisors, and management to identify, evaluate, and eliminate safety hazards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and operations to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans.
  • Monitor safety performance in the workplace and provide feedback to employees and management.
  • Maintain safety records and documentation.
  • Provide input and assistance in the development of safety budgets.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a High School diploma/GED and 1-2 years of experience as a Safety Technician or Inspector, or the overall equivalent.
  • OSHA Maritime 10-Hour training.
  • OSHA 3095 Electrical Standard.
  • OSHA 3115 Fall Protection.
  • OSHA 521 Introduction to Industrial Hygiene.
  • OSHA 5410 Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the Maritime Industry.
  • 24-Hour and annual 8-Hour update for Shipyard Competent Person training.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to provide training to groups of various sizes.
  • Able to perform evaluations in various environments including but not limited to noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions (confined spaces), while ensuring proper working environments are established and maintained.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Capable of working in a variety of physically demanding environments and weather conditions including climbing, bending, crawling, working at heights, inside of enclosed and confined spaces, heat, rain, wind, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Able to acquire and maintain a government access badge.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a safety role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
