Certified Hand Therapists will also receive up to an additional $6,240 per year added to their annual salary for as long as they maintain their certification.


PRIMARY ROLE:
Designs and executes tailored rehabilitation programs for individual patients in accordance with the principles and methodologies of Physical Therapy. Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary treatment team. The Staff Rehabilitation Specialist is accountable to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitation Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
** 1. Evaluates requests for Physical Therapy.
a. Conducts patient interviews, assesses the patient's physical condition and requirements.
** 2. Formulates a regimen of corrective exercises and treatments for designated patients.
a.

Identifies appropriate equipment usage, application, and body positioning, making adjustments as necessary during the administration of treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobilization, whirlpool therapy, heat therapy, ultrasound, paraffin therapy, cryotherapy, electrical stimulation, and traction.

b.

Instructs patients on various components of the program, including the proper use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic devices.

c. Suggests modifications or adjustments to the patient's program based on personal evaluations of progress.
d. Consults with physicians as needed regarding available alternatives.
** 3. Prepares written documentation as mandated by the profession and the department, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
** 4. Communicates observations, facts, and feedback with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure effective coordination of the overall healthcare plan.
** 5. Provides guidance and oversight to staff members assigned to assist in patient care.
** 6. Upholds department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement initiatives, including safety and infection control.

Complies with hospital-wide safety responsibilities:

  • Ensures a safe environment for patients, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all hospital safety policies and procedures (including fire safety and emergency protocols).
  • Adheres to all safety practices regarding equipment.
  • Utilizes all safety devices on equipment and ensures they are in proper working order.
  • Wears safety attire, glasses, gloves, shoes, etc., when required and observes "Universal Precautions" as indicated.
  • Reports any unsafe actions or conditions to the supervisor.
  • Participates in safety training programs as scheduled.
b. Is familiar with and adheres to the "Policy and Procedure" manual for the department.
c. Assists the Clinical Coordinator with quality improvement indicators as needed.
** 7. Aids in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
** 8. Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed.
** 9. Assists in the transport of patients to and from the Rehabilitation Department as necessary.
** 10. Assumes the responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.
** 11. Promotes professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

  • Responsible for attending all mandatory annual educational programs as required by the position.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrates the importance of meeting the needs of the customer/patient by interacting in a friendly and caring manner, being attentive to their needs, both psychologically and physically, and maintaining communication to ensure a secure and pleasant experience.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Must be licensed, or eligible to obtain a license, to practice physical therapy in the relevant state at the time of hire.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
One to two years of experience in a clinical hand therapy setting.

CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Considerable physical effort or strain; may involve repetitive tasks. May require lifting, pushing, or pulling.

Must be capable of lifting at least thirty (30) pounds independently and at least one hundred fifty (150) pounds with assistance from another individual.


EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category II. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Employment, however, may require performing unplanned Category I tasks.

INFECTION CONTROL:
Adheres to all aspects of universal precautions when engaging in patient care.
