About This Role
The Mechanical Engineering Specialist will assist manufacturing operations at our Winfield Plant, working on equipment problem-solving, design changes for increased production efficiency of existing equipment, design of new automated or hand assembly equipment for new product specifications, and quality fixtures and gages. Additionally, this role involves project commercialization and international equipment relocations as schedules dictate.
Responsibilities
- Design improvements and new features for machines.
- Assemble and troubleshoot new designs.
- Assist maintenance with equipment issues.
- Analyze root causes of equipment and product failures.
- Source parts and materials from internal and external sources.
- Must have experience in manufacturing and tooling design.
- Must be familiar with suppliers and equipment manufacturers.
- Experience with high-speed continuous motion, configuration management, and automation controls is a plus.
- Create complete tool and gage designs as requested by Product Engineers.
- Work with inside or outside suppliers to build the designs you're responsible for.
- Translate drawings provided by outside suppliers to Solid Edge 2D or 3D using available software.
- Assist in troubleshooting production problems on Assembly equipment, tools, and gages.
- Participate in team activities such as Tooling/Process reviews, cost reduction, mistake proofing, and other special projects to improve operations.
- Contribute to the Continuous Improvement Program for all areas of production.
- Help set standards in tool and gage design that promotes production flexibility while reducing changeover times.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with computer-aided-drafting such as Solid Edge, AutoCAD, etc.
- Experience in design of mechanical equipment with emphasis on mechanisms, pneumatics, conveyors, and control systems.
- Good understanding of machining and fabrication practices and abilities is a must.
- Specific and detailed product knowledge, which can be learned on the job.
- Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
This position offers an estimated base salary range of $84,000 to $104,000 per year. The specific salary offered will depend on factors such as job location, qualifications, complexity, and experience.
