Sterile Processing Specialist

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of a senior technician, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical instruments, supplies, and equipment in accordance with Title 22 requirements and The Joint Commission standards.
Fills requests from user areas, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of medical supplies and equipment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Disassembles, cleans, or decontaminates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using approved disinfectants, detergent soap, and ultrasonic cleaning.
- Assembles, inspects, tests, wraps, and dates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using illustrated manuals or lists aseptically.
- Notifies the supervisor of needed repairs and updates equipment inventory by logging in and out equipment.
- Cleans and disinfects biomedical and floor equipment, obtaining required patient information when issuing equipment.
- Exchanges, builds, and assembles crash carts for hospital units and medical group clinics.
- Performs biological testing on Sterrads, makes own test ampules, observes sterile technique, and maintains a sterile field.
- Picks up contaminated supplies and equipment, returning them to the sterile processing area according to aseptic standards.
- Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations with the public, patients, and other personnel.
- Examines sterilization dates on medical instruments, supplies, and equipment, replacing items no longer sterile.
- Pulls OR schedules, reviews, analyzes, and determines preference sheets to be utilized for cases.
- Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal and external customers by demonstrating skills consistent with the organization's philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.

Additional Requirements:
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, basic microbiology, basic anatomy, and physiology. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to lift 60 pounds and move in excess of 200 pounds. Ability to tolerate prolonged standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Central Service Certification and Medical Terminology preferred.
