Job Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, this role provides functional guidance to assigned staff, incubates patients, analyzes collected specimens, and assists GI/Pulmonary physicians with endoscopic and bronchoscopic procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient specimens through venipuncture and skin punctures to collect blood samples.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests, including lab analysis and specimen preparation.
  • Assist physicians and medical staff with procedures, diagnostic examinations, and treatments.
  • Record and chart patient data, including vital signs and test results.
  • Explain test procedures and purposes to patients and families.
  • Consult with physicians concerning test results and alert them to positive test results or abnormalities.
  • Report negative/positive specimens to physicians.
  • Prepare solutions and surgical tissue specimens for lab analysis.
  • Centrifuge or filter and separate specimens as needed.
  • Prepare control slides, clean procedure rooms, and work areas.
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations.
  • Adjust equipment in preparation for and during procedures.
  • Check emergency equipment and notify coordinators of any issues.
  • Prepare procedures and exam rooms, including setting out appropriate tubings and sterile supplies.
  • Maintain sterilized supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Decontaminate equipment and dispose of used syringes and contaminated materials.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies, and replenish as needed.
  • Orient and train new or less experienced personnel.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and in-service training programs.
  • Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.
Requirements
  • 6 months recent experience in a GI/Pulmonary setting required.
  • Knowledge of GI procedures and equipment.
  • Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Vocational Nurse License (California) required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • I.V. Certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • GI experience preferred.
Work Environment

This role requires traveling and working in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting, communicate clearly with patients and colleagues, and maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity.
