Job Summary:

The University Advisement Center at Georgia State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor III to join our team. As a key member of our advising team, you will play a critical role in facilitating academic program development, advisement, interpretation, and implementation of university policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and advise on academic programs and progress of students.

• Coordinate and communicate with faculty on academic program changes or updates.

• Assess college's compliance with Board of Regents degree requirements.

• Train and supervise staff and/or student assistants.

• Provide and/or oversee graduation checkouts and audits management for the college.

• Maintain and update current student records on information system.

• Perform admissions and recruitment functions for college.

• Perform other advanced academic advisement duties as assigned by college.

• Teach or co-teach GSU 1010 classes.

• Liaison responsibilities to a specific college or academic unit. Represent academic advising units on college and University committees.

• Assist in the development and implementation of college and University training for advisement personnel.

• Has leadership role in monitoring and tracking the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within assigned population.

• Serve as lead worker for program(s) that require coordination - Incept, social media, transfer articulation, joint enrollment, early alert, key dependency, degree works, banner, graduate student admission requirements, etc.

• May assist in reviewing student petitions.

• May handle course authorizations for students.

• May conduct informational sessions for an academic department.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and either 1) 6 months experience as Academic Advisor II at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department) or 2) five years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
