We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Vocational Specialist to join our team at WestCare. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in delivering vocational and educational guidance to clients participating in our program.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement vocational plans in collaboration with counselors and clients.
- Provide educational and vocational guidance to clients, including career planning, job seeking skills, and resume preparation.
- Design and deliver in-service training and workshops for staff and clients on topics such as community resources, labor market research, and career development.
- Promote and develop employment and on-the-job training opportunities for ex-offenders and substance abusers.
- Establish and maintain relationships with employers, identifying their human resource needs and developing businesslike approaches to meet those needs.
- Participate in community advisory groups to assist with return-to-work programs.
- Provide information to employers on the benefits of hiring ex-offenders, including cost-effectiveness and profitability.
- Assist employers in revising standards that exclude applicants from jobs.
- Identify jobs that chronically unemployed individuals can perform and demonstrate the cost-effectiveness and profitability of employing them.
- Obtain job orders, arrange interviews, and provide follow-up and feedback to clients and employers.
- Embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare.
- Certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor is preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is preferred, or a combination of experience and education.
- One year of experience in vocational counseling, job development, group facilitation, and employment services.
- Knowledge of labor market research, vocational assessment, career planning, and human resource management.
- Knowledge of offender populations, criminal subcultures, and cultural differences, substance abuse assessment tools, and therapeutic community concepts is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Culturally and linguistically sensitive to populations served.
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from LEIE, MSIL, and EPLS.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare's vehicle insurance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Fresno County Credentialing.
- CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test.
- Full vaccination and booster as mandated by the State of California.
- Work is primarily performed in an office or residential treatment setting.
- Some outdoor activities may be required.
- Requires mobility and physical activity, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, and occasional lifting and carrying of up to 10 pounds.
- Requires talking, hearing, and seeing to complete paperwork, observe client behavior, and communicate with clients and staff.
- The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids, or tissues, but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment.
