Key Responsibilities:


A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant plays an essential role in the rehabilitation and support of patients facing various physical, mental, or emotional challenges.

The primary objective of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, enhancing, and maintaining the skills necessary for daily living and working.

Below are the primary responsibilities of a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant:

Implementation of Patient Care:

Under the guidance of an occupational therapist, a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is tasked with executing therapeutic plans aimed at aiding patients.

This encompasses instructing patients on the use of adaptive tools, guiding them through therapeutic exercises, and involving them in activities vital for their recovery and enhancement.


Activity and Program Development:

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant plays a role in the planning and selection of therapeutic activities customized to meet the unique needs and preferences of each patient.

This requires an understanding of the therapeutic objectives established by the occupational therapist and the application of innovative and practical methods to achieve those goals.


Monitoring Progress:
Regular observation and documentation of patient progress is a fundamental responsibility.

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant must track changes in the patient's performance and behavior, communicate these observations to the occupational therapist, and modify therapy interventions as needed to ensure ongoing improvement.


Education for Patients and Families:

Providing education to patients and their families regarding the therapy process, the use of adaptive tools, and home adjustments is another critical duty.

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant offers clear guidance and support to ensure that therapeutic practices are maintained at home, which is essential for the patient's long-term recovery and independence.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Current license/certification in the state of practice
