Ophthalmic Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our ophthalmology department.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of technical tasks to support ophthalmology procedures, including preparing patients for exams, taking medical histories, and assisting with diagnostic tests.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment, such as phoropters, slit lamps, and tonometers, to ensure accurate and efficient patient care.
- Assist ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals with patient exams, surgeries, and other procedures.
- Provide exceptional patient care and communication, ensuring that patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, test results, and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and efficient department operations.
- Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a related field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that require standing, walking, and lifting, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials.
