Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our ophthalmology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks to support ophthalmology procedures, including preparing patients for exams, taking medical histories, and assisting with diagnostic tests.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment, such as phoropters, slit lamps, and tonometers, to ensure accurate and efficient patient care.
  • Assist ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals with patient exams, surgeries, and other procedures.
  • Provide exceptional patient care and communication, ensuring that patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, test results, and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and efficient department operations.
Requirements
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that require standing, walking, and lifting, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials.
