Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in the patient care team, contributing to the health management of patients. This position performs a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for Clinic patients, often in support of section physicians. The primary responsibility lies in the technical procedures and operation of the nursing unit in the Ophthalmology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greeting patients and performing registration duties
  • Expediting and scheduling procedures
  • Telephone triage and EHR work-list management
  • Chart preparation and maintenance, filing, and rooming patients
  • Surgery scheduling and pre-authorization/pre-certification
Requirements

Formal training in ophthalmology and patient care, with experience in sterile technique and medical terminology. Current CPR certification is required. The ability to read and understand medical information, monitor patient condition, and maintain composure in fast-paced and stressful situations is essential. Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone, are necessary. Medical office experience and computer skills are preferred.

Physical Guidelines

The ability to move, traverse, and position oneself for up to eight hours per day is required. Lifting, moving, and transporting patients, equipment, and supplies is also necessary. Articulate speech, visual acuity, and the ability to read and understand orders are essential.
