Job Summary:
As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care by performing ultrasound examinations and assisting providers with invasive procedures. This position requires a strong foundation in ultrasound technology and excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Select and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic information, applying gel to patients' skin and monitoring equipment to obtain high-quality images.
- Process and review images to confirm they meet radiologists' requirements, preparing initial diagnoses and identifying abnormal conditions for review.
- Assist providers with invasive procedures, using ultrasound equipment to guide them.
- Maintain equipment and examination rooms, storing film and managing related supplies.
- Prepare patient information files and submit reports on examinations conducted.
- Perform other related duties as directed by management.
Requirements:
- Minimum one year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
- Completion of an ARDMS-accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as breast or RVT preferred.
Work Environment:
This position requires the ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients, as well as work effectively with patients and colleagues in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see. May be required to lift objects heavier than 50 pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills, and hand-eye coordination skills.
