Key Responsibilities- Medication Management: Review and interpret electronic and written medication orders to ensure clarity, accuracy, and safety.
- Pharmacy Operations: Supervise the preparation of patient medications, including controlled substances, IVs, and IV admixtures, using standard techniques and procedures.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Successfully interact with interdisciplinary teams, administrators, physicians, residents, and nursing staff to ensure seamless patient care.
- Leadership and Supervision: Direct and monitor the work of pharmacy technicians, ensuring proper packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications.
- Outpatient Services: Operate the outpatient computer system and prepare, fill, and dispense outpatient charity prescriptions as needed.
- Drug Therapy Monitoring: Participate in the evaluation of patient medication regimens, including potential therapeutic duplication, drug-drug interactions, and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives.
- Inventory Management: Maintain departmental medication inventory levels, checking stock and ordering supplies and drugs as indicated.
- Consultation and Education: Consult with and advise physicians and nursing staff on matters related to medication selection, procurement, distribution, storage, and safe use.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including medication orders, patient information, and inventory levels.
- Education and Licensure: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and licensure in the State of Iowa.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently, set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergent situations. Basic typing skills and familiarity with computers and their functions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
