Phlebotomy Specialist

As a Phlebotomy Specialist with Interim HealthCare - Plantation FL, you will play a vital role in collecting and preparing blood and non-blood specimens from patients for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Your expertise will ensure accurate and efficient specimen collection, processing, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect laboratory specimens, including venipuncture and capillary punctures, for routine analysis, drug screens, and microbiology specimens.
- Perform and report bleeding times and skin tests, entering results into the computer/record.
- Label specimens accurately, legibly, and completely.
- Communicate clear and concise collection instructions to patients, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Prepare and stain blood smears and other specimens according to test specifications.
- Process data for productivity, outcomes, and quality improvement purposes.
- Perform screening tests and report results, including glucose tests, bleeding time tests, and quality control tests.
- Handle telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results, records requests for blood collections, and answer general questions about test orders and collections.
- Complete other assignments as requested and assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, plus six (6) months of general phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture and capillary collections on adults and children.
- Preferred: Certification as an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) phlebotomist.
- Able to provide proof of current Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BLS) training for infants, children, and adults.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High degree of accuracy required for specimen collection, centrifuge, blood collection devices, computer, and communication.
- Ability to make decisions when problems with patients arise, such as redraw, call nurse, or physician.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical staff and individuals.
- Able to provide proof of valid driver's license, if applicable.
- Able to provide proof of valid auto liability insurance, if assignment(s) include driving own vehicle.
- Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care.
