Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer - Armed to join our team at Northampton Community College. As a key member of our public safety department, you will be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide armed security services on campus, including patrolling, responding to emergencies, and investigating incidents.
  • Complete all necessary certifications and re-certifications in firearms, Tasers, handcuffing, OC, and baton.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and professionalism to the college community.
  • Assist in the dissemination of information to all officers and provide direction and support as needed.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations and collaborate with Student Affairs staff members to address student conduct concerns.
  • Monitor crime and safety hazards and follow the reporting procedure for same.
  • Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Have knowledge of crisis plans, alarms, and computer center systems.
  • Maintain a safe environment for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Enforce campus vehicle parking regulations and assist with jump starts and vehicle lock-outs.
  • Allow access to campus facilities for authorized individuals.
  • Act as a first responder for campus emergencies, including critical incidents, fire, medical, bomb threats, and crisis intervention.
  • Maintain institutional compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws as well as college policies and procedures.
  • Receive, transport, and deposit college funds appropriately.
  • Deliver presentations and training on a wide variety of topics to the campus community upon request.
  • Patrol campus on foot, in a vehicle, and on bicycle when necessary.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. PA State Act 235 Certification (Firearms) required.
  • Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
    • Valid driver's license
    • Completion and annual renewal CPR/AED certification
    • Strong organizational, communicative, and leadership skills
    • Ability to summarize information and prepare reports
    • Computer literate
    • Ability to lift 25 pounds and climb several flights of stairs
    • Ability to walk and stand for several hours at a time
    • Ability to execute multiple tasks and assignments
    • Ability to function in a crisis situation
    • Able to understand and carry out written, e-mailed, or verbal instruction
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to successfully pass all initial certifications and yearly re-certifications in firearms, Tasers, handcuffing, OC, and baton
    • Ability to successfully pass both a Drug and Psychological Screening
  • Experience: Minimum two years public safety, law enforcement, or other related experience and/or training required.
Working Conditions

The Public Safety Officer - Armed will work in a fast-paced environment, responding to emergencies and providing security services on campus. The position requires flexibility, including weekend hours, up to 25 hours per week.

Compensation

The starting pay for this position is $20.00 per hour.
