General Information

This role is essential for coordinating, directing, and executing a range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks within the multi-functional operations of the county's highway and stormwater systems.

Working Conditions

Engagement in both indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to high noise levels during specific tasks. The position requires the ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance. This is a safety-sensitive role, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment and random substance screenings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes advanced knowledge of maintenance and construction principles to safely and efficiently assign and perform duties, including operating complex tools and equipment.
  • Oversees and executes work involving asphalt, concrete, and other materials for street repairs and road construction.
  • Conducts inspections of pavement surfaces and stormwater structures, ensuring corrective actions are taken as necessary.
  • Interprets and explains blueprints, sketches, and drawings to team members.
  • Instructs and supervises work crews, including inmate labor, while managing personnel-related duties such as performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Operates and maintains complex machinery, including motor graders and excavators.
  • Promotes effective teamwork and communication among staff and the public.
  • Implements safety measures during flagging operations to adhere to traffic laws.
  • Performs additional duties as required, including emergency response tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least six years of experience in public works construction and maintenance.
  • A minimum of two years in a supervisory role.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within the required timeframe.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Physical capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds; ability to navigate equipment and uneven terrain.
  • Proficient in English, with the ability to follow and communicate instructions effectively.
  • Familiarity with computer operations and relevant software applications.
