Job Summary:

As an Ophthalmic Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our medical team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of healthcare professionals who are dedicated to delivering high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist ophthalmologists and other medical staff with patient care and examination procedures.
  • Perform various ophthalmic tests and measurements, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and corneal curvature.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, including laser treatments and intravitreal injections.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient information, test results, and treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on the latest ophthalmic technologies and techniques.
Requirements:
  • 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or completion of a JCAHPO-accredited Ophthalmic Medical Technology program.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification in Washington state within 2 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a group ophthalmological practice or environment.
  • Broad-based ophthalmic technician experience, including familiarity with EpicCare or electronic medical records systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and ability to learn new software applications quickly.
  • COA, COT, or COMT certification through JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Professionals in Ophthalmology).
